What Does a Physical Therapist Do?

A physical therapist is a healthcare professional who helps patients recover from acute injuries, chronic injuries, developmental disorders, and many other impairments. They work with patients to improve their mobility, strength, range of motion, and function. Physical therapists also help patients manage pain, swelling, improve balance, and/or prevent further injury.

Physical therapists use a variety of techniques to help their patients. These may include:

  • Stretching

  • Soft tissue massage

  • Strengthening

  • Mobilization/Joint Manipulation

  • Cardiovascular exercises

  • Dry needling

  • Breathing exercises

  • And many other techniques

Our physical therapists will perform an evaluation during your first treatment session. During that session they will develop an individualized and unique program that fits your specific needs.

Can a Physical Therapist Provide Me with a Diagnosis?

Our Doctors of Physical Therapy are able to provide you with a physical therapy/treatment diagnosis. A physical therapy diagnosis is made by a physical therapist after completing a thorough evaluation. This evaluation may include taking a patient's medical history, conducting a physical examination, and ordering diagnostic tests. The physical therapist will then use this information to arrive at a diagnosis and develop a treatment plan. Treatment plans may vary in duration and length depending on the diagnosis.
